The TENORS Workshop 2 – Computational Methods for Tensors in Mathematics and Quantum Physics took place from 13 to 17 July 2026 at the University of Trento, Italy, bringing together researchers, invited speakers and TENORS Doctoral Candidates (DCs) for a week of scientific exchange and training.
The workshop focused on computational methods for tensors and tensor networks, with an interdisciplinary programme covering topics at the intersection of algebraic geometry, numerical computation, optimisation, quantum information and many-body physics. The scientific programme combined high-level invited lectures with contributions from researchers and TENORS Doctoral Candidates.
An interdisciplinary programme at the interface of mathematics and quantum physics
Over five days, participants explored a broad range of topics, including tensor decomposition and optimisation, tensor networks, quantum entanglement, many-body systems, algebraic varieties, polynomial optimisation and quantum computation.
The diversity of topics reflected the interdisciplinary nature of TENORS, demonstrating how tensor-based computational techniques connect fundamental mathematical questions with applications in quantum information and quantum physics.
Training and exchange for TENORS Doctoral Candidates
An important objective of the workshop was the training of the TENORS Doctoral Candidates. Alongside the invited presentations, the DCs had the opportunity to present their research and engage with researchers from different fields, receiving feedback and exchanging ideas on their ongoing work.
The workshop also included a dedicated TENORS DC internal meeting, providing the doctoral candidates with time to discuss their research and their experience within the network.
This combination of scientific presentations, research discussions and peer interaction provided an important environment for the DCs to develop both their scientific expertise and their international research network.
Building the TENORS research community
The workshop also provided opportunities for informal exchange and networking among participants.
The event represents another important step in the TENORS training programme, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, knowledge exchange and the development of the next generation of researchers working on tensors, mathematics and quantum physics.
