DC3 – Sami Halaseh

Sami Halaseh

Nationality: Jordanian

Host: LAAS – CNRS

Background: Sami grew up in Jordan and Canada. He did his Bachelors degree in Toronto and his masters degree in Berlin, Germany.
Master thesis: Polytropes and Optimization
Abstract: The thesis explores structural results in tropical convexity that can have applications to optimization problems.
Research interests: His research interests are centered on tropical geometry, algebraic geometry, and optimization.
PhD Goals: As a PhD candidate in the TENORS project, Sami hopes to deepen the connection of tropical geometry and optimization using more abstract results from real algebraic geometry. He hopes his PhD project will lie in pure and applied math and act as a bridge people can later use to be able to put their abstract theorems to real world use.
Hobby: Beyond his research, he enjoys biking and rock climbing.
